Let's Get Real on Instagram Reels

Facebook has them but Instagram loves them. What are we talking about? Instagram Reels! Reels are THE hot trend in social media right now. Reels will get your social media noticed and keep the algorithms happy.

First, let’s define Reel.

What is a Reel?

A reel is a short video with text, or action to create an action, idea, or feeling. Instagram started reels to compete with the emergence of TikTok. Because Instagram and Facebook are owned by the same company (Meta) reels are also seen on Facebook. Reels can create interest in your brand and can create a surge in your social media presence if done correctly.

Reel Do’s and Don’ts:

Do: Plan out your reel and stay on topic

Instagram reels have a 5 – 90 second length. Because of the short length, make sure the content counts. Think about what you will say or the text that will be on your reel. You certainly want it to look polished and professional with a bit of fun and fresh added in. Reels can give a viewer a quick idea of the scope of your business and your business’ “personality.”

Don’t: Forget to add a reel cover

Reel covers can control your first impression of your reel. It helps you stay on brand and let the viewer know what the reel is about. It helps the reel be click-worthy and sparks curiosity for watching the reel. Get more information on reel covers.

Do: Post consistently and often

There is nothing like seeing the views and comments increase and nothing does that like posting consistently. Your business gets more engagement and trust when you are consistently posting. 90% of Instagram users watch videos on their platform every week. Instagram reels get 67% more engagement than standard Instagram videos.*

Don’t: Overpost

While consistency is important, avoid bombarding your followers' feeds with excessive Reels. Quality should take precedence over quantity.

Do: Make the algorithms happy

The secret to allowing Instagram and Facebook to share your reels? Algorithms. An algorithm tells the platform if your reel is worth someone’s time to watch and share. Doing all of the above will improve your algorithm position. Moreover, adding the latest music, sounds, and hashtags will increase the likelihood of getting your reels seen. Caution: don’t use any copyrighted music without permission.

Don’t: Forget to add some affiliate marketing to the mix

Have you ever wanted to make money while you sleep? Sure, we all have. Affiliate marketing can make that happen. This is adding a link to something that you mentioned in your reel. Many companies have agreements and contracts that allow you to make a certain percentage of the sale if the customer clicks on the link in your reel.
